Spencer Takes Geordie Ride

Jamie Spencer will be reunited with Geordieland in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

Spencer rode the Jamie Osborne-trained runner on his first two starts this term but missed out when the six-year-old finished second in the Yorkshire Cup on his last run.

Geordieland, who broke a blood vessel when disappointing in last year´s Melbourne Cup, is set to clash again with old rival Yeats who beat him by five lengths in the 2006 Goodwood Cup.

'It all went wrong for him at Flemington but he put up a good performance at York and is not a forlorn hope for the Gold Cup,' Osborne told the Racing Post.

'The crown belongs to Yeats, but he´s there to be shot at. My fellow can improve out of his Yorkshire Cup run over a trip that will suit him better, while Jamie has ridden him a couple of times this year and knows him well.'
