St Steven wins in Japan St Steven, owned and trained by John Wheeler, defeated Gokai by a length and a half to win the Nakayama Grand Jump over two miles five furlongs in Japan today.Cenkos, trained by Paul Nicholls, fared best of the three British raiders finishing fifth.The eight-year-old gelding, ridden by Timmy Murphy, was beaten just under 16 lengths by the Australian-trained winner.Banker Count, trained by Venetia Williams and ridden by Norman Williamson, finished 10th while Martin Pipe`s runner Exit Swinger was last of the 15 starters. The other intended runner Rand was withdrawn.St Steven had Gokai a length and a half back in second with Fusaichi Gold a further seven lengths away third and Minamino Gorgeous a nose back in fourth. All the placed horses are trained in Japan.
