Stall nine for Sobieski

Sobieski, Godolphin`s hope for the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup at Sha Tin on Sunday, was given the number nine berth when the draw was made for the 10 furlongs event at the Hong Kong Jockey Club headquarters today.

The Polish Precedent colt will have the assistance of former champion jockey Frankie Dettori, who is due to arrive in the former British colony on Saturday night together with trainer Saeed bin Suroor.

The four-year-old has been working well in the build-up to the big race according to Godolphin`s spokesman Ross Campbell.

Irishman John Egan, who this week landed the plum ride of the former Sir Michael Stoute-trained Hong Kong Vase winner Daliapour, also expressed his delight at the draw.

'That`s perfect,' he said after being given the number four stall for the colt who is now in the charge of local trainer Ivan Allen.

'I couldn`t have had a better draw if I`d picked it myself.'

Daliapour will be joined by a trio of stablemates including 1999 Vodafone Derby fourth Housemaster who drew the rail berth.

European challengers Jim and Tonic, trained in France by Francois Doumen, and Silvano drew 11 and 13 respectively.
