Strong entry for Sandown feature

A total of 95 horses have been entered for the first running of the Stg£125,000 attheraces Gold Cup (formerly the Whitbread) at Sandown on Saturday April 27th.

Nearly all of Britain`s top chasers have been entered, including leading Tote Cheltenham Gold Cup hopes, Bacchanal, Marlborough, Behrajan and Shooting Light.

The lure of a Stg£100,000 bonus paid out if any of the first four horses in the Martell Grand National can lift the attheraces three weeks later has ensured a strong entry of Aintree contenders.

As well as National ante-post favourite Moor Lane, Streamstown, Supreme Glory and Blowing Wind are all entered at Sandown.

Other horses catching the eye include last year`s first three home in the Whitbread - Ad Hoc, What`s Up Boys and Scotton Green and the 2000 winner Beau.

There is a very strong entry from Ireland with 10 horses including Foxchapel King, Commanche Court, Alexander Banquet and Sackville.

They have the incentive of a Stg£1,000 travel allowance funded jointly by Sandown and attheraces, as does the sole French entry Djeddah.
