Summit takes on Ferneley Again

Ger Lyons is hoping Summit Surge can take the step into Listed company in his stride when lining up in the Glencairn Stakes at Leopardstown.

Having finished fourth in the Group Three Amethyst Stakes over course and distance on his penultimate start, the four-year-old won a valuable handicap at the Curragh last time.

Lyons said: "We weren´t beaten far by Ferneley here a couple of starts ago off level weights and he gives us 5lb this time around.

"We are forced to go up in class really because the handicapper has put him up to 109 for winning a maiden and two handicaps. When I was a boy a horse rated that high would be being aimed at the Classics, but that is how it is nowadays.

"He likes to hear his hooves rattle so I hope they don´t get much rain, then he would have a decent chance."
