Sunday success maintains Hills streak

Perfect Sunday gave trainer Barry Hills a remarkable fourth Derby trial success in two and a half weeks with an emphatic victory at Lingfield today.

He was sent to the front from the off by Richard Hughes and proceeded to make every yard and justify 11-8 favouritism by two and a half lengths.

Putra Sandhurst (10-1) challenged briefly two furlongs out but was soon put in his place, eventually passing the post three and a half lengths clear of third-placed When In Rome (12-1).

Xtra was fourth but Sunny Glen, uneasy in the betting, trailed in sixth.

Hills had previously won Derby trials at Epsom with Storming Home, at Sandown with Chancellor and at Chester with Mr Combustible.

'He has had a good positive ride and has done it well, beating them off a furlong out,' he said of Perfect Sunday.

'I`ve been a bit easy on him recently because of the bad spring so hopefully he will come on for that.'

No decision will be made on whether Perfect Sunday runs at Epsom until after discussions with owner Khaled Abdulla.
