Tartan Team Looking Forward to Curragh Challenge

Ballymacoll Stud racing manager Peter Reynolds is relishing the prospect of Tartan Bearer´s Irish Derby rematch with New Approach.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt chased home Jim Bolger´s charge at Epsom and Reynolds believes there is every chance of reversing the form at the Curragh on Sunday.

"We were absolutely delighted with Tartan Bearer at Epsom, he ran a wonderful race," he told At The Races.

"He hasn´t got that much experience and is learning all the time and hopefully he will confirm that impression at the Curragh on Sunday."

On the prospects of beating New Approach, Reynolds added: "It´s not a race, it´s a penalty shoot-out. Kevin (Manning) got the first one in, now it´s our turn.

"I can´t see any reason why we shouldn´t have a wonderful opportunity. The Curragh is a flat, galloping track which will suit our horse and the ground should be perfect.

"It´s a long time since we won the Irish Derby with Troy in 1979 and we deserve another chance."
