Tregoning Thrilled With Aqaleem

Marcus Tregoning will be keeping a close eye on the action at York this week after Aqaleem´s impressive success in the Lingfield Derby Trial.

The Sinndar colt was available at 100-1 for the Vodafone Derby last week but following Saturday´s four-length victory, he is now as low as 12-1 with Stan James for the Epsom event.

Tregoning refused to confirm that the Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned three-year-old would head to Epsom immediately after the race but after discussions with the owner, a tilt at the Derby now looks likely.

'I´m particularly pleased with the way he has taken the race. Weight-wise he looks terrific and soundness-wise he is fantastic,' said Tregoning.

'I thought Richard (Hills) gave him a fantastic ride, one that will have taught him a huge amount and he will certainly come on for it.

'I couldn´t have been more pleased with him, especially the way he has taken the race.

'I´ve spoken to Sheikh Hamdan and the next forfeit stage for the Derby is in five days time and we will leave him in.

'We will watch what happens this week at York with great interest and the likelihood is he may well turn up there (Epsom) but the operative word is 'may'.'
