Triumph favourite warms up at Sandown

Volano, ante-post favourite for the JCB Triumph Hurdle, will continue his Cheltenham preparations with a run at Sandown tomorrow.

The Nicky Henderson-trained four-year-old will bid to follow up his winning debut with a victory in the Charcol Guildford Juvenile Novices` Hurdle.

Volano, a 10-1 shot with Coral for the Festival, won over course and distance on his first outing over obstacles but his connections were not entirely satisfied with his performance.

James Stafford, racing manager for owners Thurloe Thoroughbreds, explained: 'The plan is still to go to Cheltenham but he`s really having a run to get a little bit more experience and practice.

'Nicky did not feel that he jumped as well as he could do and we think a bit more racecourse experience will put him right for Cheltenham.

'He needs more practice to get his racecourse jumping as good as it is at home and in a race like the Triumph, the more practice the better.'
