Wachman And Lordan Hit Treble Top

Anna Karenina gamely held off all-comers to form the middle leg of a hat-trick for trainer David Wachman and jockey Wayne Lordan at Gowran Park.

The four-year-old had to be kept up to her work to open her Listed account in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes.

The 4-1 joint-favourite held Dimenticata by a head in a driving finish, with Diamond Necklace a close third.

She is set to run next in the Group Three Ridgewood Pearl Stakes at the Curragh later in the month.

Wachman said: 'She is a nice filly. A mile is her trip and she will go for the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes next.'

The 129-1 three-timer had been initiated by three-year-old newcomer Magic Carpet (11-2), who swept to victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

The daughter of Danehill beat the favourite Thoughtless Moment by a neck.

And the day was complete for the duo when 3-1 favourite Navajo Moon got the better of Soneva Gili by two and a half lengths in the Thomastown Maiden.

Aidan O´Brien and Seamus Heffernan landed a short-priced double with Henrythenavigator and Mahler.

The latter made all the running to win the PricewaterhouseCoopers Classic Trial.

Ezima put in a strong challenge despite running wide into the straight but Mahler (4-5) was too good and went away to win by five lengths.

VC Bet trimmed Mahler to 20-1 from 33-1 for the Vodafone Derby.

Speaking from Newmarket, O´Brien said: 'He is a lovely horse and he´d be a definite possible for Epsom.'

Heffernan told At The Races: 'He ran very green in his first run. We fancied him today, although it was a hot race.

'He got to the line really good. He has a bit of class.'

Henrythenavigator looked a top-notch two-year-old when romping home on his debut.

Heffernan sent the Kingmambo colt to the front after two furlongs and the 4-5 shot quickened away to beat Dick Morris by seven lengths. Hawk Wood was a length and three-quarters away in third.

O´Brien said: 'He looked nice didn´t he? The two-year-olds are running well and his is an Ascot-type.'

Heffernan added: 'He was working smart at home and has loads of pace and a lot of class.'

Cashmans were suitably impressed and gave Henrythenavigtaor a 16-1 quote for the 2000 Guineas and 20-1 for the Derby.
