Walsh comfortable after Listowel tumble

Ruby Walsh is 'reasonably comfortable' in Tralee General Hospital today after having his dislocated left hip manipulated back into place following a fall at Listowel.

The champion Irish jump jockey will be out of action for at least six weeks after being brought down five fences from home on Johnny Ringo in the Bank Of Ireland Handicap Hurdle yesterday.

'He`s resting and reasonably comfortable but we won`t know until the surgeon sees him today or tomorrow the extent of the recuperation period,' Jennifer Walsh, his sister and agent, said today.

But the injuries are not as bad as was first feared as it was originally thought that Walsh, 22, had broken his left femur.

'Thankfully it`s not as bad as it seemed yesterday evening,' she added.

This is the second time in the last two years that Walsh has sustained a serious injury after he fractured a leg in a fall at Pardubice in the Czech Republic in October 1999.

He returned the following March and went on to land memorable successes for his father, Ted, in the Martell Grand National on Papillon, and the Irish equivalent on Commanche Court.

It is thought that Walsh would be back in action in time for the Northern Ireland Festival meeting at Down Royal on November 9 and 10. -Reuters
