Watering brings Lyons to boiling point

Trainer Ger Lyons was in far from celebratory mood following the win of his Summit Surge in the featured Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown tonight.

Lyons has long been critical of the watering system in Ireland and, after the win, again vented his frustration to the press.

He stated "the watering policy in this country is a disgrace. We declared on "Firm" ground but the ground was "Good" at best for the first race. The racecourse watered today which is against all rules as there was rain forecast."

He added "Summit Surge ended up coming wide into the straight in search of the ground we wanted."

"I came very close to leaving this race behind as I almost pulled him out, as I did at this venue last week."

Summit Surge?s win was the first Group 3 winner in Ireland for his 20 year old South African rider Keagan Latham and Lyons intends sending the gelding to The Curragh for the Celebration Stakes on Derby weekend.
