Well Executed Gamble at Ballinrobe By the same sire as his stable star, Salford City, the Desert Sun gelding, Buachaill On Eirne landed a gamble in Poplar Linen Westport Handicap Hurdle for Gordon Elliott. In the process, the 5/1 shot (from as big as 25s this morning) credited rider, Shane McCann with a first success since Raintown won at Roscommon back in August 2005. Buachaill On Eirne had to show plenty of courage to fend off Via Mantua by two lengths. In a lively betting heat, Derrymore Dawn was the one punters wanted at the track, but this Willie Mullins-trained hope didn´t run up to scratch back in ninth. Buachaill On Eirne´s dam, Peig Sayers is a half-sister to the top stayer, Assessor. The five-year-old himself impressed when victorious in a point-to-point having began his career with a couple of bumper runs cross-channel for Richard Guest. Gordon Elliott put forward better ground and a first time tongue tie as reasons behind his charge´s improved Park form. Plans for the Declan Burke-owned gelding include Galway and in the longer-term Cheltenham´s meet next November.
