Wetherby beats the freeze This afternoon's meeting at Wetherby goes ahead after the track passed a morning inspection. Clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson had planned to take a look at 8am but he brought forward that check after a mild night. He said, 'It is good news and we are racing. The temperature only dropped as low as plus two at its coldest last night and the remaining snow on the track has gone overnight. We are very pleased as no-one likes to cancel a meeting, particularly one as good as this.' Wetherby's card gets underway at 11.40am with the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle, transferred from last week's abandoned meeting at Newcastle, the feature event. Meanwhile today's meeting at Chepstow goes ahead despite a fire at the track earlier in the morning. The fire is believed to have started at around 7.30am in the sauna area of the weighing room but the fire brigade was quickly on hand to extinguish the blaze. General manager Richard Holland said, 'The sauna area of the weighing room will be out of action today, but racing goes ahead as planned.' Owners and trainers will be accommodated in a marquee and hospitality boxes instead of their usual bar. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been started.
