Wings Flying Towards Leopardstown

Flashy Wings showed herself to be in tip-top form in a workout on the grass at West Ilsley this morning and is to return from a mid-season break in the Group One Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on September 9.

The winner of last season's Queen Mary and Lowther Stakes proved she had trained on when getting to within two lengths of Nannina in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, having disliked the soft ground when beating only two home in the Stan James 1000 Guineas.

However, her trainer Mick Channon wasn't happy with her after the Royal meeting.

He said: 'It took a while for her blood to get right but she's going well and worked great this morning. What we want is some genuine good ground for her.

'She'll have another bit of work next week which should put her spot on for the Matron.'
