Yaqeen On Course For Guineas Bid

Michael Jarvis believes maiden winner Yaqeen merits a place in the Stan James 1000 Guineas on Sunday week.

The Green Desert filly is set for a big step up in class after taking a seven-furlong maiden at Newmarket last week on only her second racecourse start.

Yaqeen´s two-length win prompted the sponsors to make her an 11-2 chance for Classic glory and Jarvis has been pleased with her progress since that run.

'Yaqeen is an intended runner in the 1000 Guineas. She has come out of last week´s race well and seems fine,' he said.

'It was only a maiden but I thought she has done it well ? and she was doing it at the right end of the race.

'Given an extra furlong, she would have been an even more clear-cut winner. A mile will be to her liking.'

Jarvis sent out Ameerat to win the Guineas in 2001 but he is reluctant to compare the two.

'The two fillies are quite different. Ameerat was a big filly, almost like a colt. This filly is light,' he told www.newmarketracecourses.co.uk.

'I´m certainly not saying she is one of the favourites but she is a filly with potential and warrants taking her place in the line-up.'
