York Abandon Saturday´s Fixture

Tomorrow´s meeting at York has been abandoned due to waterlogging just hours after today´s fixture was lost.

An inspection planned for 4.15pm was brought forward as conditions showed no signs of improvement.

Officials had no alternative but to call off Saturday´s card, featuring the #100,00 William Hill Trophy.

'We´ve had 50mm of rain since one o´clock this morning so I´m afraid we´ve had to abandon,' said clerk of the course William Derby.

'We´ve got water everywhere, on the racecourse and elsewhere.

'We´ve had an unprecedented amount of rain. We´ve had much more rain in the last 11 hours than we would expect in the whole month of June.

'It´s desperately disappointing for the connections of runners, racegoers and everyone. I don´t think it´s possible to save the William Hill Trophy, unfortunately.'
