Youmzain Delighting Channon

Mick Channon believes Youmzain should not be underestimated in Saturday's King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Despite failing to score in three runs this year, the West Ilsley handler feels his son of Sinndar commands plenty of respect.

'Youmzain's form is rock-solid and I couldn't be more pleased with his preparation,' Channon said.

'People shouldn't dismiss his chance, especially as he'll be running over his best distance.'

Pointing to the colt's best form as a three-year-old, he added: 'We got within a half-length of Rail Link before he went on to win the Arc, and we beat Red Rocks in the Voltigeur before he won the Breeders' Cup Turf.

'Although Youmzain hasn't won so far this year, little has gone right for him,' he told the Racing Post.

'For example, at Saint-Cloud last time he slipped on the first bend and then wasn't helped by the slow pace. Before that, he found a mile and a quarter too short when third to Notnowcato and Dylan Thomas.

'Of course, I've plenty of respect for the opposition, but I'm very happy with our horse right now. He breezed nicely this morning and I feel he's going into the race in excellent shape; as good as I've had him.'
