A change of fortune for the Mitchells

Trainer Richard Mitchell and his jockey daughter Sophie ended a long losing run when Shannon Light won the the Severn Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow yesterday.

Mitchell snr had not saddled a winner for almost a year while his daughter had gone 86 rides without success until Shannon Light galloped to their rescue with a length and three-quarters verdict over Helixir Du Theil.

Trainer Mitchell said: 'We`ve had a lousy season as the horses were just not right early on and we had one or two such as Farmer Jack taken away because owners won`t accept when horses are wrong they cannot run.' His daughter commented: 'That is a relief and I was hoping no one would ask but it`s been a while and 86 rides since my last winner.'
