Admiral On Chester Trail

Tim Pitt reports Admiral to be on course to bid for back-to-back victories in the totesport Chester Cup on May 9.

The six-year-old made all for a 28-1 surprise under John Egan 12 months ago and is a 12-1 chance with the sponsors behind 8-1 joint-favourites Galient and Halla San for a famous repeat.

Bawtry-based trainer Pitt said: 'He´s in great shape, we´re still there with the original plan to go straight to Chester.

'He spent a week swimming earlier this month and we are now on the build up to the race and he´ll do his final pieces of serious work over the next week.'

Totesport spokesman Damian Walker said: 'The race looks wide open and we have gone 8-1 the field with Galient and Halla San joint-favourites.

'Galient was second in last season´s Queen´s Vase and his trainer Michael Jarvis has a fine record in the Chester Cup, winning it in 2004 and 2005 with Anak Pekan.

'Richard Fahey´s Halla San looked in great shape when upped to a mile and three-quarters earlier this month and should relish the extra distance at the Roodee.'
