Americans target Royal Ascot

Four American horses have been put in the newly upgraded Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, it was announced today.

The quartet are headed by Caller One, winner of the last two runnings of the Group One Dubai Golden Shaheen for Jim Chapman and beaten under a length when third in last year`s Breeders` Cup Sprint.

Also engaged in the Group One contest are Gone Fishin (trained by Michael Doyle), Investor`s Dream (Richard Mandella) and Morluc (Randy Morse), with Gary Stevens already booked to ride the last-named.

A total of 72 horses are in the six-furlong contest, which was formerly known as the Cork And Orrery Stakes, including Kentucky Derby hope Johannesburg and leading Sagitta 2000 Guineas fancies Hawk Wing, King Of Happiness and Naheef.

The last-named trio are also in the St James`s Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting.

Sakhee and Nayef are among 46 entries in the Prince Of Wales`s Stakes, which has attracted two American possibles in Cagney (Richard Mandella) and Western Pride (Jim Chapman).

Entries for the Gold Cup are up from 36 in 2001 to 44 this year, with 2001 first and second Royal Rebel (Mark Johnston) and Persian Punch (David Elsworth) both engaged again.
