Balding Banks Baden-Baden Prize

Banknote stepped up to Group Three company in style when winning the Badener Meile at Baden-Baden.

The five-year-old, who is trained by Andrew Balding for the Queen, took the Listed Doncaster Mile in March but was having his first try in Pattern-race company in the mile event.

Banknote was always prominent in the hands of Francis Norton and after making his move a furlong out, the Zafonic horse pulled a length clear of Aspectus.

Balding said: 'He has been very progressive as he has got older and we might look for another opportunity for him in Germany.'

Irish runner King Jock was third but he looked a little unlucky as rider Pat Shanahan did not find much room in the straight.
