Ballydoyle 1-2-3 in Dewhurst

Aidan O`Brien showed his domination of the juvenile scene is not confined to Ireland when saddling the first three home in the Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket today.

O`Brien was responsible four of the eight runners and it was 4-6 favourite Rock Of Gibraltar who prevailed in a thrilling three-way photo with Landseer (13-2) and Tendulkar (8-1).

Shah Jehan, the other Ballydoyle runner, cut out the early running at only a steady pace.

But with two of the seven furlongs left to travel, Jamie Spencer on Landseer seized his chance and kicked for home, as Tendulkar began to make up ground from the rear on the outside but the Sir Alex Ferguson-owned favourite was boxed in.

Just as Landseer looked set for victory, Michael Kinane found racing room and sent Rock Of Gibraltar in pursuit and the Danehill colt proved a willing partner, getting up well inside the final furlong and then sticking his head out to hold the late rally of Landseer by a short head with the staying-on Tendulkar just a head away in third.

The Terry Mills-trained Where Or When kept on well for fourth.

Kinane admitted he thought he had been beaten on the favourite.

He said: 'I thought Landseer nailed me on the line.'

And he added: 'He pulled hard. He didn`t settle. He just emptied a bit close home - and the other one (Tendulkar) arrived as well.'

Stable jockey Kinane was relieved that he had 'just' chosen the right one in the race.
