Ban leaves Williamson in suspense

Norman Williamson will have to wait until tomorrow morning to learn if he is able to ride Banker Count in the Nakayama Grand Jump at Nakayama on 13 April after picking up a one day suspension at Aintree today.

Williamson was found guilty of using his whip with excessive force on seventh placed Find The King in the Martell XO Anniversary 4-Y-0 Novices` Hurdle won by Quazar.

He was initially surprised that he had fallen foul of the Rules and then realised that the 13th was a significant date and as he emerged from the weighing-room to have another word with the stewards` secretary he said: 'It is serious'!

If a jump jockey is suspended on a day on which there is a Grade One race, the suspension can be lifted for that day and served on another day, allowing him to ride in the race.

However that does not carry over into other countries as such, but stewards` secretary Patrick Hibbert-Foy explained: 'Precedents have been set with Ray Cochrane and Gary Stevens having been allowed to ride in other countries in similar circumstances - if there is a very valuable race then a particular country may say `well all right the jockey can ride`.

'We will speak to Portman Square in the morning and go from there.'
