Cadeaux Shocks Classic Art

Dutch Art lost his unbeaten tag and is out to 14-1 with Cashmans for the 2000 Guineas after taking a knockout blow from Major Cadeaux in the Lane´s End Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

Peter Chapple-Hyam´s Middle Park winner had been second-favourite for the Stan James-sponsored Classic but went down by three and a half lengths in his prep race over seven furlongs.

Major Cadeaux (100-30) charged along at the head of affairs and left his rivals for dead when Richard Hughes turned the screw passing the two-furlong pole.

The 8-11 favourite Dutch Art had travelled well in his slipstream but could not match the Richard Hannon-trained winner´s finishing kick.

Blue Square offer 7-1 about Hannon´s charge prevailing at Newmarket on May 5, while the sponsors go 6-1, William Hill 11-2 and Ladbrokes and totesport 5-1.

Hannon said: 'I would have been happier if he could have got a lead, but he should be able to get that in the Guineas.

'He hasn´t run since winning the Coventry at Royal Ascot last year as he came home jarred up.

'I would think he will go to Newmarket and Sonny Red (runner-up in the Craven) might go elsewhere to look for better ground. But they would both have live chances.'

The sponsors pushed Dutch Art out to 10-1 for the Guineas, but Chapple-Hyam, whose Rodrigo De Triano was beaten in the Greenham before claiming big-race glory at Newmarket in 1992, wasn´t writing off his charge just yet.

He said: 'It turned into a complete sprint and that didn´t suit my horse.

'It will be a lot different in two weeks´ time. Two weeks is a long time in a horse´s lifetime and he will improve for this.'

Mick Channon sent out the Jamie Spencer-ridden Majestic Roi to stun her rivals at 25-1 in the 1000 Guineas trial ? the Group Three Dubai Duty Free Stakes.

The twice-raced daughter of Street Cry was slowly away but soon found her stride and swept round the outside of the field to take control inside the final two furlongs.

Indian Ink ? the 15-8 favourite ? came out of the ruck to give chase but Majestic Roi would not be denied and came home a neck to the good.

Stan James quote the winner at 20-1 for the May 6 Newmarket contest for which she would have to be supplemented, while VC Bet are 25-1 for the Vodafone Oaks.

Channon said: 'We´ve always thought she was very good. Last year everything went wrong for her, but she´s a talented filly and has come right.

'She´s now won a Group Three, which is very important. I´ll sit down and talk to Jaber (Abdullah, owner) and see what he wants to do.'

Maraahel has been a loyal servant to Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum and the six-year-old struck first time of asking this season in the Group Three Dubai Tennis Championships Stakes.

The talented entire has been called some names in the past but his record speaks for itself and the 9-4 favourite dug deep under Richard Hills to repel the challenge of Mighty by a neck.

Last year´s star stayer Sergeant Cecil ran an eyecatching race over a distance short of his best to finish fourth in the mile-and-a-half contest.

Sheikh Hamdan´s racing manager Angus Gold said of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained winner: 'The second horse wouldn´t leave him alone, but he has battled hard.

'He could go to Singapore or the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot.'

Stoute tasted further success as Frankie Dettori put Red Gala´s head in front in the final half-furlong to oblige as the 7-4 favourite in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire Handicap.

But Dettori was suspended for two days for two separate cases of interference and will be out of action on May 2 and 3.

Diamond Tycoon was slashed in the ante-post market for the 2000 Guineas after demolishing a useful-looking field in the Dubai International Airport Maiden Stakes.

The response was immediate when Spencer ? initiating a 233-1 double ? asked the 8-1 shot to power clear and he was not asked any serious questions to see off Lucarno by six lengths.

Stan James cut the winner to 16-1 from 100s having initially gone 40s, a price cut which was mirrored by most firms, although Cashmans offer 20-1.

Trainer Brian Meehan said simply: 'He is in the 2000 Guineas and that is where he will go next.'

Meehan and Hughes teamed up to good effect in the two-mile Pertemps Handicap as the race-fit Junior (5-2 favourite) resisted all-comers for a head victory.

Trance took fourth under Paul Fessey, who was suspended for two days (May 2 and 3) for careless riding.

Also heading to Newmarket in two weeks is Pinpoint after the five-year-old floored his rivals in the £40,000 Bloor Homes Spring Cup.

His rider Adam Kirby weaved a smooth passage through the field in the mile event to sail past the strong-travelling Royal Oath a furlong from home and collect by a length and a quarter at odds 8-1.

Trainer Walter Swinburn said: 'This was the plan and all being well he will probably go to Newmarket on (2000) Guineas day for a 10-furlong handicap.'
