Cesarewitch second set for hurdles debut

Smart Flat performer Palua puts his Cheltenham credentials on the line when he makes his jumping debut at Huntingdon tomorrow.

The Ian Balding-trained five-year-old, who holds entries in both novice hurdles at next month`s Festival, is among 10 runners in the Betfair.Com Sidney Banks Memorial Novices` Hurdle.

'We`ll find out whether he takes to hurdles tomorrow,' said trainer Ian Balding`s son Ian.

'He`s schooled fine, but we`ll find out more tomorrow. We are not making any predictions until then.

'Cheltenham is a long way off. He has to come through tomorrow`s test first. As long as he comes back OK and jumps well we`ll be happy.'

Palua, a neck runner-up to Distant Prospect in the Tote Cesarewitch at Newmarket last October, was surprisingly still a maiden on the Flat until he won on the Polytrack at Lingfield three weeks ago.

He faces a stern test tomorrow when his opponents include The Queen Mother`s highly-promising recruit First Love and other previous winners Adelphi Theatre, Dramatic Quest and Calldat Seventeen.
