Champery Tops British Trio

Champery leads a three-strong British challenge for tomorrow´s German 2000 Guineas at Cologne.

Mark Johnston´s raider comes into the mile Classic on the back of a half-length second behind Fares in a Listed event on Lingfield´s all-weather track.

The Bahri colt switches back to turf in Germany and he will be partnered by Jean-Pierre Guillambert for the first time.

Johnston said: 'He is in good form so we wanted to take our chance there.'

Mick Channon claimed the race, also known as the Mehl-Muhlens-Rennen, with Royal Power last year and he sends Majuro this time.

Chris Catlin partners Majuro, who was last seen when finishing sixth in Champery´s race at Lingfield.

'He prefers good ground and should run better than recently when beaten by Champery,' Channon said.

Stan Moore´s Montalembert, seventh in a Group Three contest at Frankfurt last Sunday, will be partnered by German champion Andreas Suborics as he bids to improve on that showing.

Group Three winner Davidoff, Global Dream, winner of last year´s Maurice Lacroix-Trophy and Listed victor Rolling Home head the home defence in a field of nine.
