Cheveley duo could tackle Nayef

Cheveley Park Stud could fire both barrels at Nayef next week.

Their Sir Michael Stoute-trained Tempest is on course to tackle the 2000 Guineas favourite in Thursday`s Macau Jockey Club Craven Stakes at Newmarket.

And he could well be joined by Red Carpet from Michael Bell`s yard unless drying weather reaches Newbury.

Red Carpet`s trainer said: 'We will put him in the Greenham and if the ground dries out at Newbury he will go there as Cheveley Park would like to keep them apart.

'But if it doesn`t dry out at Newbury he will probably still go for the Craven.'

Red Carpet, by the stud`s top sprinter Pivotal, finished third in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket last autumn and is reported in good heart for his return to action.

'He is in great shape and couldn`t look better,' Bell said.

'It is a fact-finding mission this week - we will find out whether he stays or whether he takes after his father and is a sprinter.'
