Conquest to have Leopardstown workout

Casual Conquest faces a crucial workout at Leopardstown on Wednesday evening which will influence whether the colt will be supplemented for the Vodafone Derby.

The unbeaten winner of the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at the track earlier this month will be put through his paces after racing.

Trainer Dermot Weld had intended to gallop the colt left-handed at the Curragh on Monday, but that plan was shelved because of the firm ground.

"He didn´t work at the Curragh as the ground was too hard," said Stan Cosgrove, racing manager to owners Moyglare Stud.

"He´s going to work left-handed on Wednesday after the races up at Leopardstown. There´s supposed to be rain coming.

"We´ll make a decision after Wednesday. We have until next Monday to make our mind up for Epsom."

That is the day horses can be added to the field for the premier Classic on Saturday week at a cost of #75,000.

Cosgrove expressed concerns about Casual Conquest´s ability to act on Epsom´s unique circuit.

"He´s a big horse and we´re just a little bit afraid of him coming down the hill," he went on.

"If there are 17 or 18 runners at Epsom he could be in trouble and that´s what we´re worried about."
