Curtain Call goes straight to Epsom Curtain Call will line up in the Vodafone Derby without the benefit of another run after unsuitable ground forced him to miss the Lingfield Derby Trial. Luca Cumani´s charge has proved popular in the ante-post markets for some time and reappeared with an easy success at Nottingham in April. "Curtain Call will now have to go straight to the Derby without having faced a strong field so far this year," said Cumani. "It is fortunate that he was ready to run at Nottingham on April 23rd and at least we have got a run into him, albeit against lower-rated opposition. "On the plus side, he did have five runs as a two-year-old so is not in need of racing experience." Cumani was delighted with Curtain Call´s work at the weekend and must now gradually step up preparations for the Derby. "Saturday morning saw him doing a strong bit of work on the Limekilns gallop with Jamie in the saddle over eight furlongs," he told www.lucacumani.com. "He cruised up to his workmates and two of them kicked on together nicely. "With just less than four weeks to go to the Derby we now have the job of bringing Curtain Call to his peak for Saturday June 7th. "He is a horse that looks after himself naturally and does not tend to overdo it but can get a bit fresh and boisterous so it is rather like keeping the lid on a simmering pot without letting it boil over!" The son of Sadler´s Wells sprung to prominence last season when trained, in Ireland by Jessica Harrington, to win the Group 2 Beresford Stakes.
