Curtain Call´s connections to appeal controversial Curragh placings Connections of Curtain Call, who finished fifth in the Irish Derby on Sunday, will lodge an appeal with the Turf Club on Tuesday against the decision of the Curragh stewards not to promote their horse to fourth place. Curtain Call was badly hampered by Alessandro Volta about a furlong from the finish of the Classic before Alessandro Volta continued to drift left, hampering Tartan Bearer. Following a stewards´ inquiry, Alessandro Volta was demoted from third to fourth, with Tartan Bearer being awarded third place. The stewards were satisfied that, by causing interference, Alessandro Volta had improved his placing in relation to Tartan Bearer. But they were not satisfied that Curtain Call would have finished in front of Alessandro Volta had he not been hampered, and decided not to promote Curtain Call. Patrick Cooper, spokesman for Curtain Call´s syndicate of owners, said yesterday: ?We are appealing as we feel our horse should have been placed in front of Alessandro Volta at the stewards´ inquiry. ?Our horse was badly hindered and we believe it cost him the two-and-a-half-length difference there was between him and Alessandro Volta at the finish.? Curtain Call was set to return to Luca Cumani´s stable yesterday evening and the trainer said: ?He is in good order after the race and luckily has no cuts or bruises. He put up a solid performance but I would have been more delighted if he hadn´t been interfered with.?
