Dettori receives MBE Frankie Dettori braved the rain at Sandown Park today to receive his honorary MBE from British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook. The rider received the honour for services to the racing industry. Cook explained: 'As head of the diplomatic service, I am in a position to confirm that Frankie really is an excellent ambassador for his sport. 'Always smiling, always cheerful, he has portrayed just the image that racing wants, that it is good fun to go racing.' After collecting his MBE, Dettori, who survived a plane crash last June in which the pilot was killed, said: 'I am greatly honoured. This is a great way to make a living. 'I`ll carry on riding and I`ll carry on doing my best.'
