Dettori To Lay Down The Law

Frankie Dettori will partner Lawman as he bids for a third win in the French Derby at Chantilly on Sunday.

Twenty-four hours after looking to land the Vodafone Derby for the first time on hot favourite Authorized, the popular Italian teams up with Jean-Marc Beguigne's colt.

Lawman booked his place in the Prix du Jockey-Club with victory in a Group Three contest over nine furlongs at Chantilly three weeks ago.

Dettori was snapped up as Olivier Peslier, who has partnered him in the last three of his four starts, is retained to ride the Carlos Laffon-Parias-trained No Dream, owned by the Wertheimer brothers.

'Olivier was due to ride it but his retainer has got a runner in the race so it was a spare ride and it was passed on to me,' said Dettori's agent Ray Cochrane.

'Lawman's a very smart horse. Olivier wanted to ride it if his own team hadn't got a runner in the race. It's a good spare ride.'

Dettori's French Derby wins were on the outsider Polytain in 1992 and the Godolphin-owned Shamardal, who floored Hurricane Run two years ago.
