Doran and Whelan in Trouble at Fairyhouse The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Alice Bradys Call, trained by Miss Martina Anne Doran and ridden by Mr Dermot Whelan in the final race. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. Mr Dermot Whelan, stated that his instructions were to settle his horse in mid division and make his ground up about four furlongs from home. He added that he missed the break slightly as the horse became fractious at the start. The rider also stated that the horse ran green in the straight suffering interference repeatedly. In conclusion having seen the video he accepted that if he rode the race again he could have finished closer. Miss Doran, confirmed the instructions and stated that the horse can be temperamental and needs cover adding that she was happy with the ride. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that the horse had wounds on the front legs and a cut cannon but was sound post race. Having viewed the video of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that both rider and trainer were in breach of Rule 212. Consequently the trainer was fined 1000 Euro, the horse suspended for sixty days and the rider suspended for fourteen race days.
