Down But Not Out

David Wachman's Downtown rallied to great effect to beat Hasanka in the final stride of the Group Three Boss Croker Centenary Give Thanks Stakes at Cork.

The John Oxx-trained Hasanka was the subject of a sizeable pre-race gamble from an early-morning price of 6-1.

And sent off the eventual 2-1 favourite, Mick Kinane appeared to have ridden the perfect race.

But Seamus Heffernan refused to accept defeat on the 8-1 chance and got the Danehill filly up to win by a short head after a lengthy photo-finish.

Nick's Nikita stayed on for third under a penalty.

Pierce Power, representing Wachman, said: 'She's a very nice filly and showed that she stays really well.

'She is from a good family so it's great to get a Group Three win.

'David will now hopefully find something similar for her as she seems to be improving.'
