DREAM STILL ON FOR CHELTENHAM

Function Dream remains on course for the rescheduled Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham on April 18th despite her disappointing run at Huntingdon on Thursday.

The mare, one of the leading fancies for the Festival following five successive victories, was sent off the 11-4 favourite for the Happy Birthday Hugo Bevan Chase.

However she could only finish last of the nine runners, beaten 34 lengths behind winner Satchmo.

Trainer Mary Reveley was inclined to blame the ground conditions rather than the extended two and a half mile trip for the flop.

She said today: 'She seemed absolutely fine this morning.

'It was probably that the ground was too holding, too sticky for her under 12 stone.

'It wasn`t the trip, she was just not good enough on the day.

'If she`s fine she will go to Cheltenham - I think that`s more likely than Aintree. But she wouldn`t run if it was firm.'

Function Dream had been a 9-2 chance with Coral for the two-mile Festival contest before the meeting was postponed.

Meanwhile plans are on hold for Grey Shot after the gelding floundered in the soft ground at Huntingdon.

The nine-year-old could only finish eighth of the nine runners in the Happy Birthday Hugo Bevan Chase, having been sent off the 3-1 joint second favourite.

Grey Shot`s original target at the Cheltenham Festival had been the Mildmay of Flete Handicap Chase.
