Paul Townend is set for a brief spell on the sidelines after suffering a heavy fall at Limerick on Saturday.

The champion jockey was partnering the Willie Mullins-trained Kerry Star in the opening Free Racecourse WiFi At Limerick Mares Maiden Hurdle when she crashed out two flights from the finish.

Townend was stood down for the remainder of the afternoon and has not taken any rides at Killarney on Monday and Tuesday.

Townend’s agent, Ciaran O'Toole, said: "He's just a bit sore and he text me this morning to say he wouldn't be riding tomorrow (Tuesday)."

The next jumps action in Ireland after Tuesday is Thursday’s card at Killarney.

"I'm not sure when he'll be back. It's just a case of monitoring the situation," O'Toole added.

Townend enjoyed a memorable end to the 2018/18 campaign, providing his boss Willie Mullins with an elusive first Cheltenham Gold Cup success on board Al Boum Photo before being crowned champion jockey for a second time.
