End of the road for Bay Jim Old`s 1996 Champion Hurdle hero Collier Bay has been retired, it was revealed today. Owned by Wally Sturt, the 11-year-old son of Green Desert was ridden to Cheltenham glory by Graham Bradley as the pair beat Alderbrook by two and a half lengths. However, he was pulled up on unsuitably firm ground in Make A Stand`s race the following year and could never quite hit the same heights when he embarked on a chasing career. Collier Bay struggled again in a three-mile chase at Newton Abbot on Saturday and was pulled up after suffering breathing problems. His trainer told the Daily Mail: 'His wind has deteriorated again and it is not fair to carry on. 'He gave me the greatest moment of my career and it doesn`t come any better than winning the Champion Hurdle.
