Etoile Still In Leger Frame

Mont Etoile could take her place in the line up for Saturday's Ladbrokes St Leger after pleasing connections in a gallop on Sunday morning.

The Montjeu filly, winner of the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot earlier in the year, has not been seen since finishing fourth behind Alexandrova in the Irish Oaks in July.

However, trainer William Haggas reports the filly to be in fine heart at present and the final Classic of the season is still under consideration.

'She worked this morning and it all went well,' he said.

'She will be confirmed tomorrow and she's in good form so we hope to run.

'Obviously the faster the ground, the better her chance would be.'

Mont Etoile has won two of her six career starts, taking a Yarmouth maiden in April, as well as also being placed in Listed company.

Haggas planned to give the filly a mid-season rest in preparation for the Leger but if she does not run at York, Mont Etoile is likely to be put away for next term.

'She had some hard races earlier in the season and it was always the plan to give her a break after the Irish Oaks and then go to the Leger,' Haggas added.

'If she doesn't run in the Leger, she won't run again this season but she does stay in training next year which is good news for us.'

Mont Etoile is as low as 20-1 with Coral for the Leger, which will be run on the Knavesmire while Doncaster is redeveloped.
