Fallon back with double

Kieren Fallon was forced to give up his rides on Friday following a fall at Brighton 24 hours earlier, but he was quickly back in champion form at Pontefract today.

He landed a double on his only two mounts, Mizhar and In Disguise, before dashing across the M62 to ride in the final race at Haydock.

But he had to survive a nasty incident in the stalls before the Bentley Selling Stakes when Mizhar tried to go down forcing Fallon to quickly bail out of the saddle while the gelding was hauled back up by the handlers.

Erro Codigo made the running but Fallon produced David Nicholls`s Mizhar with a sustained run to lead inside the final furlong and go on to score by two lengths.

In Disguise was always tending to hang off the rails in the Yorkshire Racing Club Median Auction Maiden Stakes, but Fallon was equal to him, and having led from the outset the John Dunlop-trained colt stayed on well to hold off Lion Hunter by half a length.

Before heading to Haydock, Fallon said: 'The horse I was riding at Brighton suddenly took off from a walk and the further he went the faster he went. The way he was heading we were coming to a dead end and I thought it might not be a good idea to stay on board so I bailed out but landed on my head!

'They stood me down for two days, but they included Thursday so I played a bit of golf yesterday and came back fresh today.'

Royal Cavalier stunned Saturday punters again to complete a 48-1 double for apprentice Graham Gibbons at Haydock today.

The gelding who sprang a 50-1 surprise in the November Handicap at Doncaster last autumn was again largely ignored in the betting for the Tote Ten To Follow Stakes and allowed to start at 16-1.

But he triumped for the bookmakers once again, leading under two furlongs out in the mile-and-a-half contest and going to score by three quarters of a length from Twilight Haze.

Gibbons had initiated his double on the Bryan McMahon-trained juvenile Redding, who made his third appearance a winning one in the MTB Group Maiden Auction Stakes.

Mariinsky also showed plenty of speed to take the feature Field Marshal Stakes under a front-running ride from Pat Eddery, holding off Online Investor by three quarters of a length.

Pattern races now beckon for the winner, who was given just three races as a juvenile by Brian Meehan.
