Finicius Handed Desmond Aim Finicius will sidestep weekend engagements in Ireland and France in preference for a crack at the Desmond Stakes on August 19.Eoin Griffin's colt holds entries in the Patrick P O'Leary Memorial Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh and the Group One Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard-Jacques le Marois at Deauville. But connections are instead planning an assault on the one-mile Desmond at Leopardstown, for which Finicius would have to be supplemented.A ready scorer on his debut at the Curragh, he was last seen finishing sixth behind Tariq in the Betfair Cup at Goodwood.Griffin said: 'He's come out of Goodwood very well and is in good order ? the seven furlongs was no bother to him that day.'But we will not run him on Sunday and it is more than likely he will be supplemented for the Desmond.'He can handle it a bit on the soft side and a bit on the fast side, but he's a horse who wants genuine good ground.'(C) PA Sport
