Fit-Again Fallon At The Double

Kieren Fallon missed the winning ride on Peeping Fawn in the Irish Oaks last Sunday but was back in the winner's enclosure with a rousing double at Fairyhouse.

Fallon had been sidelined for eight days by bruising and stiffness after a fall from Eagle Mountain in the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp.

Although Choosing could not oblige for the six-times champion on his first ride back in the opening maiden, he did not have to wait long as One Great Cat landed odds of 9-10.

Aidan O'Brien's colt looked a bit short of room a furlong out in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C&G) Maiden, but Fallon found a gap down the outside to see off Rock Moss by half a length.

Fallon was at it again in the Rackenstown Race when he cajoled Trinity College (11-2) to a neck defeat of Fleeting Shadow in what was a cracking finish to the one-mile-one-furlong heat.

Haatef is set for a trip to Glorious Goodwood after justifying favouritism with a comfortable success in the Listed Belgrave Stakes.

Kevin Prendergast's charge was a huge disappointment in the 2000 Guineas earlier in the season but after bouncing back to form with a win at Naas last time, he made short work of his rivals here.

Sent off the 1-2 market leader, Haatef was settled in the pack as Kingsdale Ocean cut out the early pace with Declan McDonogh manoeuvring into third turning into the straight.

He kicked on down the outside around a furlong and a half out, with Haatef responding in style to pull a length and a half clear of Moone Cross at the line.

Majestic Times was a further length and a quarter back in third.

Haatef, who finished fourth in last year's Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket, is now set for a step back up in class on the Sussex Downs.

Prendergast said: 'He travelled well all through the race and he couldn't do anymore than he did.

'It was a good effort against the older horses.

'He's in the seven-furlong Group Two at Goodwood (the Betfair Cup) and he might go there.

'But he's also in the Sussex Stakes and that's an option ? at least he might get good ground there.'

Haatef also caught the eye of bookmakers William Hill, with the firm now going 16-1 from 20s about his chances in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock in September.
