Fitzgerald supports local meeting Former top amateur rider Aidan Fitzgerald is looking forward to the inaugural running of the www.aidanfitzgeraldracing.com Mares Winners Of Three at the Carlow Farmers Foxhounds point-to-point at Borris House on Sunday. Since turning to the training game, Fitzgerald has brought some nice young horses through the point-to-point ranks, including Bordini, a winner of two bumpers after joining the nearby powerhouse of the Willie Mullins yard. Limerick native Fitzgerald is now based in County Carlow, like Mullins, at Cobajay Stables in the picturesque environs of the village of Borris. "I've sponsored the best-turned-outs on the day before, but we've put our name to the race this year as I'd be very keen to help the hunt," explained Fitzgerald. "There's a lot of hard work involved in running a point-to-point. You need a good committee which we're very lucky to have. "We'll have a mad hatters race after the card which all the members of the hunt will ride in. They're all very excited about that - they love putting on the colours - it's a great day for them. We've basically got a load of Victoria Pendletons riding at the weekend!" Very much involved in the staging of the point-to-point in Carlow, where they also ran a meet back in December, Fitzgerald reported: "I was in helping to put in the fences the other day and the ground is yielding to soft, I'd say, it's a real dry spot. "There's a good entry as it's a very good track. Some good horses have won out of there. We're very lucky to be getting the use of the land off Morgan Kavanagh and his father Andrew. "I normally do the starting there, but with runners you can't do that, so this time I'll probably be running about doing every kind of a job." On his own business, Fitzgerald reflected: "I've been happy with the response to the website - something we done during the summer. "We bought a lot of young horses this year, and there's a few shaping up well, but they take time. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year, though."
