Fundamentalist Run Rests Ground

Fundamentalist will complete his preparations for the Cheltenham Festival at Newbury on Saturday ? ground permitting.

The 2004 Royal & SunAlliance Hurdle winner is set to tackle the totepool Game Spirit Chase en route to a possible crack at the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

The eight-year-old missed the rescheduled Victor Chandler Chase as trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies felt he would not be suited by the switch to Sandown and the handler will have no qualms about pulling him out at Newbury if conditions are too quick.

'He was never going to run at Sandown because he needs to go left-handed,' said Twiston-Davies.

'As long as the ground is good he will be running at Newbury on Saturday and we will know more about where we stand after that.

'I'm pleased they are watering at Newbury as the only ground that hurts horses is firm. I would not be afraid to pull him out though if I thought it was too quick.'
