Garden Breezes To Success

Monet´s Garden enhanced his reputation with a flawless performance in the Weatherbys Bank Novices´ Chase at Carlisle.

Sent off the 2-7 favourite, Tony Dobbin settled him behind the front-running Iron Man before letting him go on at the fourth last.

Nicky Richards´ eight-year-old soon powered clear of his rival and kept on up the straight to win by a distance.

VCBet responded to his facile success by slashing the grey to 12-1 from 20-1 for the Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy at the Cheltenham Festival.

He remains an 8-1 chance for the Royal & SunAlliance Chase with the same firm. Monet´s Garden was having his first start since November after suffering a slight setback before Christmas.

'There´s a good deal of relief and it´s nice to get him back on the track - he´s done it well,' Richards told Racing UK.

'He was pretty slick over his fences. Tony said he was just starting to take off at the third last and he was delighted with him.

'The next plan is to just get him home and make sure he is OK. We might get another run into him before Cheltenham.

'If we did send him there it would be a big ask after just a couple of little runs around the north.

'He´s got masses of ability but he just needs practice.

'We will have to see what the ground will be if he is going to run at Cheltenham.

'If it was good to soft I´m sure he would run a very big race in the Arkle. There´s also the Ryanair Chase he could run in over two miles and five furlongs. But he might miss them all and go to Aintree.'
