Godolphin hope to give cup rivals the slip

Give The Slip and Marienbard were today handed the responsibility of continuing Godolphin`s run of success in the Merewood Homes Yorkshire Cup.

They were the Dubai-based operation`s two acceptors for a mile-and-three-quarter race it has won recently with Classic Cliche and Kayf Tara - who both went on to win the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

Give The Slip won last year`s Tote-Ebor over Wednesday`s course and distance when trained by Amanda Perrett and has won in Dubai in the winter.

Marienbard, second in the Great Voltigeur here for Michael Jarvis last August, has yet to race for his new connections.

Also among 10 confirmations for the Stg£135,000 Group Two event were 1999 winner Churlish Charm (trained by Richard Hannon) and John Porter Stakes third Dalampour (Sir Michael Stoute).

Merewood Homes Yorkshire Cup, Confirmations: Persian Punch, Royal Rebel, Churlish Charm, Dalampour, Eternal Spring, Give The Slip, Jardines Lookout, Marienbard, Miletrian, Samsaam. (10).
