Goldstein hoping for Saturday return

Jockey Jamie Goldstein hopes to return to the saddle on Saturday after being kicked in the head during a crashing fall at Fontwell.

The 23-year-old rider was aboard Momentous Jones when the four-year-old fell at the sixth obstacle in the WJB Chiltern Handicap Hurdle at the Sussex course yesterday.

His agent, father Ray Goldstein, said today: 'He was kicked on the side of the head and has got a graze there.

'He got a kick on the inside of the leg, which makes it a bit awkward and uncomfortable. He is badly bruised but nothing is broken. He has schooled this morning at Nigel`s [Twiston-Davies] but he is very sore.'

The jockey, who has ridden one winner this season hopes to resume at either Ascot or Wetherby, depending on the stable`s runners and Carl Llewellyn`s commitments.

'He has been lucky. It could have been worse,' added his father.

'It is his first fall since coming back from having five months off. He fell at Plumpton on Easter Saturday and fractured a vertebraand compressed a couple of others. He started riding again in September.'

Goldstein has been with Twiston-Davies since he left school and has worked his way up to become second jockey.
