Taoiseach, Brian Cowen was in attendance at Kilbeggan and he presented the prize for the opening Tullamore All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil Maiden Hurdle.

The large crowd got the evening off to a good start as the well-backed Negus (4/6) sauntered home under Andrew McNamara for Edward O´Grady.
