Green Set For Denman Challenge

Turpin Green looks set to take on Denman in the Aon Chase at Newbury on Saturday as Nicky Richards plots a return path to the Cheltenham Festival.

Owned by Trevor Hemmings, the nine-year-old belied a price tag of 40-1 when third behind Kauto Star in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup last year, leaving connections to mull another crack at the blue riband.

Turpin Green's resolve has been questioned in the past, yet he has now amassed total prize money approaching £200,000.

"He may run on Saturday and we'll see how he goes through the week but that's the plan anyway," confirmed Richards.

"He's not a bad horse for a dodgy one! He was third in the Gold Cup last year so why not go there again?"

Of similar mind is Hemmings' racing manager Mick Meagher, who feels Turpin Green would be far from disgraced in Cheltenham's March 14 highlight.

"I think potentially he could run well again. He's such a capable horse, he just has a mind of his own," he added.
