Ground Key To Frederick Campaign

William Hill Galway Plate winner Sir Frederick will be kept to the summer festivals in search of better ground.

The seven-year-old provided trainer Liam Burke and conditional jockey Kevin Coleman with the biggest successes of their careers in the showpiece race on Wednesday.

However, he is unlikely to be busy through the winter as he is seen to much better effect on good ground.

'He's A1 after the race,' said Burke. 'The owners had some party afterwards, but I had to go home as I was driving.

'Kevin gave him a grand ride, he didn't panic and we'll see what the handicapper does with him now.

'We've been thinking about the Kerry National, but the key to him is good ground. We'll keep him ticking over and hope for some nice weather.

'He has won on soft, but he is not the same horse, he doesn't recover as well.

'He is best fresh anyway, but it takes him ages to recover after racing on soft so he probably won't be seen in the winter. The ground is normally so bad over here in the winter that it is pointless running him.'
